December to March is the best time for calving for wildebeest and the annual migration route and stay at the incredible Ndutu area, where guests will enjoy a luxury stay on the rim of the crater. Most of your time will be spent on game drives and spotting wildlife in Ndutu area and Serengeti plains. This is truly a premier itinerary incorporating the best of the migration safari route.
NDUTU | SERENGETI PLAINS | NGORONGORO CRATER | TARANGIRE
The lodge has a main building raised on a wood and concrete platform, with extraordinary views of the Rift Valley and Lake Manyara that includes an area to relax with comfortable sofas, outside and inside dining, and a swimming pool. Every evening a campfire is lit and guests can enjoy the sunset with drinks and appetizers.
Nested high above the plains into the Crater’s jagged rim, cloaked in river stone and indigenous vines, Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is barely visible to the naked eye. Framed by arched stone passages and timbered decks, its torch-lit walls are adorned with stylized cave paintings. At the stone heart of the lodge burns a glowing fire, which is kept constantly alight. Rooms are looped around the Crater rim. Each has its own rock-enclosed balcony, and all enjoy completely uninterrupted views of the volcanic Amphitheatre far below. Our Ngorongoro hotel lodge is a place that feels as ancient as the Crater itself, yet no modern comfort has been spared in an effort to bring you the best safari adventure.
Witness the early morning mist rise on the banks of Lake Masek, from the private terrace of your tent you can observe the wildlife of the area. Many animals visit the lake in search of water and therefore this camp is at a privileged observation point.
Lodge
Elegant tents built on raised wood platforms with en-suite facilities and an outside shower. After a day on safari guests can enjoy a refreshing shower under the stars. Each tent has its own private terrace where guests can enjoy the landscape and the surroundings. The family tent consists of two interconnected tents and a shared bathroom and private porch.
Lake Ndutu is alkaline, like most of the other Rift lakes; however, the water is still drinkable and used by a wide array of local wildlife. We arrive in time for lunch at the camp, and after lunch, we will do an afternoon game drive in the Ndutu area. The majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December to April. The area is usually heavily populated with elephants, birds, and resident game
Woodlands Camp is a precious gift Karibu Camps and Lodge offers during the months between December and March. Our mobile luxury tented camp rests within the Naabi Slopes, in close proximity to Lake Ndutu, Moru Kopjes, and the Hidden Valley. We specifically set up our camp during the emotion-stirring calving season, where hundreds of baby calves are brought into the fierce plains of the Serengeti. A genuinely memorable sight can be experienced from the comfort of any of our 12 luxury suites or our spacious lounge and dining area, accompanied by your drink of choice under the African sun or starry skies around a campfire. Your uninterrupted view of the action-packed Serengeti plains whilst still enjoying the liberties of our services is our priority and we ensure that your experience is unmatched.
